In Philippians 3, Paul says, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Philippians 3:12 NIV)

I cannot help but ask, “How does that grab you?” Some resist being held or led by God. Prideful, independent people refuse to allow God’s grace to reconcile them to God. They work and put confidence in themselves to earn heaven. The Apostle Paul says, “Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Jesus took hold of Paul when he was on the road to Damascus. Though an enemy of the church, Paul was loved by God and grabbed for eternity. God made the first move and Paul submitted to his Savior.

Once in Jesus’ possession, Paul counted all his previous works as rubbish when they were compared to life in heaven with Jesus. If asked, “How did that grab you?” I believe Paul would say that it was eternally redemptive. Allow Jesus to take hold of you and your life will bear fruit for eternity.
